Aozoranoyukue (Way of the Blue Sky)

aka Way of the Blue Sky

Is about a Japanese high school student Masaki Takahashi who who announces during homeroom that this will be his finally term at school, in a few weeks his family is moving to America for his fathers work, and also that he likes a girl. He doesn’t say who the girl is, but five girls, classmates of his try to deal with their feelings for him and also each other.

This sounds like a harem anime description except the guy isn’t a hapless loser and the film really explores the characters complex emotions on love and loss and friendship. You may recognize Aki Nishihara, who played Yuuki in HYD as Takako Ichida. I enjoyed this movie very much and would recommend it to anyone who likes movies such as Hana to Alice or series similar to the 2001 drama Strawberry on the Shortcake.Screen Caps below are from early in the movie, no spoilers.

Beautiful movie. Takahashi is in a way the "blue sky" because he connects all the girls together in the same way that the blue sky connects us all together.

Having watched it only one time, what was the issue between Takahashi and Yajima that needed resolution? Betrayal?
