Bambino Episode 1 Screen Caps

Ban Shogo played by Matsumoto Jun (HYD, Kimi Wa Petto) is a cook at a small Italian restaurant in Fukuoka who believes he’s a skilled chef. Hi boss wants him to go to Tokyo to work at an exclusive and popular restaurant run by a student of his. Ban agrees to go to prove his skills because he’s proposed to his girl that they open a restaurant together someday.
So far the story line is the typical shounen manga, the protagonist thinks that he is skilled in the small setting that he has existed in, thrown in a larger setting with skilled people he falls to the bottom. Rest of the manga is about through determination and work he then rises to the top. We’ll just have to see if episodes 2-10 bear out this theory.
I thought this first episode was an OK introduction, the actors were all good and the story was interesting enough if you enjoy cooking. It was nice to Kitamura Kazuki (Akiharbara@Deep, Densha Otoko DX) in a role where he didn’t have to play an evil otaku. I wish they had chosen a manga with some humor like Addicted to Curry or Yakitate!! Japan it would make for a more entertaining story, especially for people who don’t care how to make broth. But this first episode was just an introduction the storyline may improve in later episodes. So far after seeing almost all the new Japanese dramas I’d rate this 4th behind Proposal Daisakusen, Hanayome to Papa and Tokkyu Tanaka San Go. But I’ll be surely keep watching I like Jun and have loved the other dramas he’s starred in that were based on manga.

I really enjoyed that first episode and just hope that it continues to be as good. It's not just me though, it's the highest rated drama in Japan. Give it a try if you have time and let me know what you think.
