As I anxiously wait for the release of the final volume of the manga I decided to post more screen shots of the anime. In the second episode as the deadline to printing for the club’s doujinshi draws near Madarame moderates an emergency meeting of the Genshiken. All the members of the club are present except for Kuchiki, who’s run away. The only completed pages for the doujinshi are the two that Ogiue drew and were accepted by Sasahara who’s acting as the editor. Sasahara points out that the printer will give an extension for a small surcharge, but there is no point if no one wants to do the work. Kugayama brings up the issue that the person who came up with the idea to produce a doujinshi can’t even draw. Madarame moves quickly to circumscribe that issue as it will lead to needless argument and doesn’t really have anything to do with the approaching deadline. Instead he focuses the discussion on how they arrived at the point the club finds itself at and what if anything can be done to salvage the book.
This is one of my favourite arcs in the manga and the translation to anime has been great. Fans of Genshiken already know how good this series is but drama fans should really give this anime a try, it is the most realistic anime I’ve ever seen. You don’t have to be in an anime club to know these characters, a science fiction club, computer club, any group that inspires extreme love of the subject. Characters are what drives this show each in his or her own twisted way is interesting. Densha Otako
drama fans particularly should give show a try.
