Juken Sentai Gekiranger 獣拳戦隊ゲキレンジャ Screen Caps

The tokusatsu series opens with giant pandas dropping to the forest floor, a Tarzan like boy; Kandou Jan drops onto the nearest panda and bites him on the nose. Then stands and gives a yell of jubilation, on his victory. He hears a noise and ascends a cliff to determine its cause just in time to see a plane pass overhead and crash into the forest. He gets to the crash site in time to see a woman, Misaki Miki fighting a group of Rinshi (corpses given only a temporary life), Misaki is using a Kenpo martial arts known as Beast-Fist style hers is the Fierce Beast Leopard-Fist. Jan introduces himself to Misaki as he’s very impressed with her fighting style he wants to see more. Then Misaki is attacked by Rin Jyu Mantis-ken, Makirika who defeats her obtaining the Kenma Bracelet then escapes. The scene switches Mele tries a sneak attack on Rio her lord and the man that she loves, but he’s not impressed by the force of her attack. She promises that someday a hit of her love will take him, and then has Makirika enter the Hall. Meanwhile Jan is brought back to civilization by Misaki where he’s introduced to two more fighters of the Beast-Fist style, Retsu and Ran.

This show is as much fun as a barrel of pandas or giant cat martial arts masters. It reminds me of a cross between the dubbed Hong Kong kung fu movies that used to be broadcast Saturday afternoons when I was a kid, and when the monsters and rangers become giants it’s like a kung fu Godzilla movie along with wrestling commentary by Mele’s fly, Bae. Speaking of Mele she’s the cutest corpse I’ve seen in a long time, from her slinky cheongsam to her battle armor. She reminds me alot of Revy from the anime Black Lagoon. At first it was because their voices are somewhat similar but both are very strong female characters often on the edge of violence. The side story of Mele and Rio is often as interesting as what’s happening with the rangers who are a likeable bunch of characters with Jan being the center of the humor. I also really like the Rin Jūken Akugata character suit designs, along with Mele and Rio’s the Kenma Hawk and Kenma Earth are really cool. This is the first Super Sentai series that I’ve watched so I don’t know how it stacks up to the others but the first forty episodes that I’ve seen so far have been a load of fun. I’d recommend this to Godzilla fans or anyone who like humorous toku’s like Cutie Honey or Kamen Rider Den-o.

Download the entire series of 49 episodes from the TV Nihon tracker here.

@p-chanMele is the best!!!

She is indeed, I really enjoyed her role and also Rio's they really helped to make the whole series utterly enjoyable, I rarely have enjoyed villains so much. Plus she was really cute as Santa-chan. Thanks very much for recommending this series to me, I had a great time watching it this week.
